Wildlife enthusiasts can plan a tour to the Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park located at Vanasthalipuram at a distance of 15 kilometers from the city. You will be surprised to know that this wildlife park is named after the Jain saint Mahavir. This park has been established in 1975 in the birth anniversary day of the saint. This park was once the hunting ground of the Nizams, rulers of Hyderabad. The main attraction of the park is its endangered black buck deer, a total of 400 bucks are found here.

Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park is home to other wild animals like
cheetahs, wild boar, monitor lizards, mongooses, porcupines and a wide variety of snakes. Its birdlife is also rich and birds found in this park are like partridges, quails, peacocks, doves, pond herons, egrets, kingfishers, cormorants, birds of prey like kites, vultures, eagle etc. In the winter season one will spot here various migratory birds frolicking in the water holes. The short-toed eagle is found in this park.
