Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad

Being one of the oldest museums in Hyderabad, Salar Jung Museum Hyderabad has so much in store to offer to a tourist. It is located on the bank of Musi River. One can easily reach this museum from the city centre traveling in public transport and by hiring a private taxi. Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad

Salar Jung Museum has so much rare things, yet the most revered ones are its musical clock, the Veiled Rebecca, rare scriptures and manuscripts. The museum is named after Mr Yousuf Ali Khan as most of the collections belong to his personal collections. This museum was started by his father Nawab Mir Laiq Ali Khan as well his grandfather Nawab Mir Turab Ali Khan i.e. Salar Jung I. It houses altogether 40,000 items collected from various places of the world. It was declared open for public by the former prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru.

While visiting this museum one must peep into its founder gallery to have glimpse of its portraits of the founders. The Indian art and sculpture are displayed in great number with finest collections of various ages. It all includes the stone sculptures, bronze images, painted textiles, modern art, ivory carvings, jade carvings, wooden carvings, miniature paintings, metal-ware, manuscripts, arms & armor, etc. The Middle Eastern collections are carpets, manuscripts, glass, metal-ware, furniture, lacquer, etc which are collected from Persia, Arabia, Syria, and Egypt. Other collections of the museum are porcelain, bronze, enamel, lacquerware, embroidery and paintings, which have been skillfully made in China, Japan, Tibet, Nepal and Thailand.

One will see oil and water paintings originated in countries like England, France, Italy and Germany at the European chamber of the museum. One will mesmerize to see its statues of Veiled Rebecca, fashionable knives of Mughal Emperor Jehangir and Queen Noor Jahan, famous European paintings like Venice, etc.
